Dorothy Woods Obituary

Dorothy Woods, 94, of Paris entered eternal rest on March 4, 2022. Funeral services are set for 11:00 am Saturday, March 12, 2022, at Solid Rock Baptist Church with Dr. Jerard Mosley serving as eulogist and the Rev. Floyd Trotter, officiant and pastor. Interment will follow to Restlawn Garden Cemetery under the direction of Maxey Funeral Home.

Dorothy Woods was born to John and Ann Thomas on June 17,1927 in Paris Texas. She was the youngest of 14 children. There were 8 other girls besides herself, Effie, Addie, Maude, Nora, Johnnie, Catherine, Bessie and Mamie. There were 5 brothers, Terry, Robert, Richard, Willie & AB. Dorothy was the last living sibling for many years until her passing. In 1947 Dorothy married Porter Woods and from that union came 6 children.

She is preceded in death by her sons Ricky, Steve, Michael, David, Jackie & Larry and one daughter-n-law Kay Woods. She is survived by son James Porter Woods, and God son Thomas Flowers. Dorothy shared a special Sisterly relationship with her cousin Ms. Ruby Burns. Dorothy has 15 grandchildren, 44 Great-Children, 4 Great-Great Grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Dorothy was the greatest example of dependability and endurance as she was employed with Campbell Soup for over 20 years before retiring. Dorothy proved that a wise woman always finds something for her hands to do. This she proved by later becoming employed at Wal-Mart, after having retired.

She served as a faithful member at Solid Rock Baptist Church for over 40 years and loved her Pastor dearly. She and Pastor Archie developed a special bond, and he would prove to be a pivotal part of her family during every one of her family tragedies. She served faithfully on the Usher Board and was simply one of Gods faithful servants. Ms. Dorothy was a rare jewel, who was known to tell it like it was and who made a mean German Chocolate cake. She was a rare find, an intricate vessel and a one-of-a kind piece that was on loan to earth and has been returned to her original owner. She will forever remain in our hearts.
