Erma Jean Washington-Cooper, 89, of Paris, entered eternal rest on July 22, 2021. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 pm Saturday, July 31, 2021, at Paris New Generation Baptist Church with the Rev. Harold Washington serving as eulogist and the Rev. Shannon McGuire, officiate and pastor. Interment will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery under the direction of Maxey Funeral Home.
Erma Jean Washington-Cooper was born on November 23, 1931 to Minor and Jessie (Reed) Washington, the second of five children.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Earnest Washington, Freddie Washington, Roy Washington, her sister Orlevia Neal and her grandson (Li’l) Robert Washington Jr.
Erma attended Powderly schools. She enjoyed making friends as she never met a stranger. She was the sole owner of the “Dot In” Café where she loved cooking and hosting pool tournaments for the neighborhood.
She loved going to church and preparing her Sunday’s Best by having a “pocketbook” to match every dress. She was a faithful member of Palestine Baptist Church where she served as a missionary for many years and always had a word of wisdom to share. She would often say to her grandchildren that “when you learn better, you do better.”
Erma leaves to cherish her memory, three sons Robert (Dianne) Washington, Adrian (Loretta) Cooper, John Paul Washington, three daughters Dorothy Morgan, Loretta (Eugene) Francis, Margaret (Jimmy) Robins and Goddaughter Evelyn “Cherry” (Lieutenant) Mims and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, a great great grandchild, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
