Life Reflections of Eugene Smith

Eugene Smith, 52, of Paris passed away April 20, 2022. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am Saturday, April 30, 2022, at Olive Branch Baptist Church. Pastor Billy Shepherd will serve as eulogist. Interment will be held in DFW National Cemetery.

Eugene Smith was born October 28, 1969, to Marth Smith in Brooklyn, New York at 8.44 pm.  His life dream was to work and live on a ranch where he could ride horses and rope cows.  Instead, he felt the calling of joining the United States Army where he excelled.  During his enlistment from November 2, 1994, to August 25, 2016, he achieved the rank of 1st Sergeant (E8). Eugene served with honor at multiple duty stations including Hawaii, his favorite duty station.  He loved the island and the people loved him.  When he talked about his time in Hawaii, his face lit up and often said his experience there was life changing. The professional who cared about the soldiers' ability to do their job but also, their personal lives.

During his 20 years as a 92A5M Automated Logistical Eugene earned, Iraq Campaign Medal w/ two campaign Stars, Meritorious Service Medal (2nd Awards), Army Commendation Medal (7th Award), Army Achievement Medal (7th Award), Army Good Conduct Medal (7th Award), National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Global war on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global war on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed forces Service Medal (AFSM), Officer Professional Development Ribbon (3rd Award), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (5th Award), NATO Medal (2nd Award), Combat Action Badge, and attended several military professional technical and occupational schools.

The best thing about Eugene was his heart, he cared for everybody that he touched. He loved children and always said that he didn't have to have children because he had ours. He would give anything to see a child smile. Eugene's personality would win you over every time. Although sometimes he had some dry humor you had to love it because he would laugh at himself.  There was nothing more important to Eugene than his family and friends.
