Michael Ross Hughes affectionately known as “Mike” was born on August 8, 1949, to the parentage of Leonard Hughes, Sr. and Katherine Hughes. Mike attended Paris ISD public school and was a l968 graduate of Paris High School Wildcats. He was active in various sports and had a passion for music. Mike accepted Christ at an early age and united with True Vine Christian Church, Paris, Texas under the leadership of Pastor Douglas Reasno. He was not shy about sharing his religious beliefs and was always eager to tell others what God had done for him. In 1972, he met and marry the love of his life, Valerie Emery-Hughes. And to that union two daughters were blessedly added. He later became the proud grandpa of two adorable grandsons and after their arrival, Mike felt as though his life was complete, that’s the kind of impact the grandsons had on him.

Mike’s working professionalism led him to Central Freight Line, Paris, Texas, whereas he was a dedicated employee for many years. His last place of employment was American Freight Company, Dallas, Texas. He loved his work and enjoyed meeting people. Mike leaves a legacy behind for so many lives that he touched with his hilarious sense of humor. When you see him in deep thoughts, he is ready to amuse you with laughter. He loved putting a smile on everyone’s face that he met. That’s what made Mike unique in his own way. Mike lived life to his fullest. Some of his hobbies included barbequing (so good!), fishing, walking, playing his guitar, watching football games and old western cowboy movies. He enjoyed spending quality time with his family, relatives, classmates (whenever he sees them), and friends he met throughout his lifetime. On the afternoon of February 5th, 2024, an angel touched Mike on the shoulder and said, “It was time to come home.” Mike was obedient to his calling and his work on this earth was satisfactorily completed. His grandparents, father, mother, one sister and four brothers preceded him in death.

Loved ones who remain to cherish his memories: Valerie Hughes (a devoted wife of 52 years); two amazing daughters, Andrea Hughes and Dr. Temeca Hughes-Morris of Lewisville, Texas; two adorable grandsons, Darrel Davis, Jr. (Cat), Darian Brandon Morris (Punny) of Lewisville, Texas; two brothers, Leonard, Jr. (Audry Jean) Hughes, Glenn (Carolyn) Hughes of Paris, Texas; four sisters, Janet Hughes, Sybil (James) Frazier; Frances (Bert) Woods of Paris, Texas; Leah (Bobby) Richards of Lewisville, Texas; two uncles, Richard Lee Oats, Charles (Dee) Oats of Dallas, Texas.
