Nancy Burton Obituary

Nancy Burton, 100, of Paris formerly of Honey Grove, Texas passed away on May 6, 2021.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, May 15, 2021 at St. James Baptist Church,
Honey Grove, Texas. Maxey Funeral Home will make burial in St. Mark Cemetery.

Nancy Marie(Chaffin) Burton was born in Timber Creek, Texas on March 20,1921 to Leroy Chaffin Sr. and Francis Roberts. She was the 2nd of 21 children (5 being cousins raised as siblings).

She married Tony Burton, Sr. on July 31, 1945, who preceded her in death after 62 years of marriage.

Nancy received her education in Lone Star and Honey Grove, Texas. She accepted Christ at an early age. She was a member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church and later moved her membership to St. James Baptist Church (Big Wood) where she faithfully served for 70 years. At St. James she served in numerous capacities. She held the positions of choir director, church clerk, and Sunday School teacher where she taught in some families for 5 generations. She also sang in the Choir until she was 99 years old.  Nancy was a pillar of the community where she was also known for her  delicious scratch baking. She was always there to help anyone in need in the community.

We were blessed to celebrate her 100th birthday on March 20, 2021!!

Sunset for Nancy was May 06, 2021. She found her perfect peace and fell asleep in Jesus’ arms. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; step-mother, Oneatha Chaffin; step-daughter, Cora Compton; Brothers, Marvin Chaffin, Charles Chaffin, Calvin Carter, and H.D.  Harris; Sisters, Allie M. McNeal, Beulah Chaffin, Norma Hunt, Justine Ingram, Estella Person; Grandchildren, Kerry Wright, James, Leo, and Marcus Compton, and  Devonte Akins; and Son-in-love,  Rev. David Moore.

Left to cherish her memories are her children, Peggy Lavon Moore, Linda Traylor (Delmer), Francis Russell (Ronald), and Tony Burton Jr.; her sisters, Willie J Shaw, Helen McConnell, Joanna Bizor, Myrlene (Rose) Phillips, Betty Cross, Myrtle Alberty, sister-in-Law Doris Chaffin;  her brothers, Leroy Chaffin Jr, Porter Chaffin Sr.,  Wayne Chaffin(Sue), Wesley Chaffin (Devoice)and brother-in-law, Bobby Person.

She also leaves her grandchildren, Rev. Jerry Lee, Toni Chriss, Jalonda Davis(Norman), Rodney Pearson(Angie), Anthony Moore, Donna Anderson, Larry McCallister, Brandi McCallister, Fatesta Bateman, Tynisha Burton and Desmond Burton; 33 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great  grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and her beloved St. James Church family.
