Pastor Cravon Smith, 94, of Paris entered eternal rest on October 13, 2021. Funeral services are set for 11:00 am Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. Pastor George Johnson will serve as eulogist and the Rev. Gary Savage, pastor. Interment will follow to Littlejohn Cemetery under the direction of Maxey Funeral Home.
Cravon Smith came into this world on February 8, 1927 in Red River County to the late Henry Smith and Aline Mims. He was affectionately called “Dad, pops, paw paw, shorty, Pastor, Rev and many more. No matter what he was called, he was loved dearly by many and that love will continue after his earthly departure. He made his triumphant transition to glory on October 13, 2021 with his eyes looking toward Heaven. Undoubtedly, the angels rejoiced at his arrival.
Pastor Cravon Smith grew up in Texas. He was in the army for almost 2 years. He met and married the late Erma Dean Burns in 1947 and remained married to her for 59 years until her death in 2006. From this union eight daughters and four sons were born.
After experiencing multiple nose bleeds in his mid-30s or 40s, he decided to surrender his life to Christ. That’s when the bleeding subsided, and he started preaching at Victory Temple Church of God in Christ. In 1962 Elder Smith founded and started pastoring Faith Power House Church of God in Christ.
He trusted God completely and listened daily for God’s instructions. He was selfless, lived to please God and tried to allow God to order his steps. He was a great example of a man that followed God, and there is no doubt his legacy followed him to Heaven.
Pastor Smith was preceded in death by his mother and father, his wife (Erma Dean), five daughters: Addie Jean Boone, Mary Lucinda Smith-Ransom, Katie Maye Smith, Wanda Raye Smith and Linda Faye Smith. and son Jimmy Ray Smith. He will be fondly remembered by extended family and friends.
Pastor Cravon Smith is survived by a sister: Carolyn Owens of Temple, Texas. Three daughters: Robbie Faye Norris (Tommy), Dollie Ann Fulbright (O.J.) and Glenda Kaye Smith. Three sons Cravon Earl Smith, Tommy Smith (Debbie) and Michael Smith. He also leaves twenty-four grandchildren and a host of great and great great grandchildren to cherish his memory.
