1932 ~ Her Story ~ 2023

Ruby Lee Cofield was born on October 21, 1932, in Direct, Texas to the parentage of the late Mark and Pearl (Blackwell) Cofield who were sharecroppers. Ruby was the fifth of six siblings. She attended Lamar County schools and graduated from Powderly High School. As a teenager she liked to go to the movies, hangout with friends, attend basketball games and school plays. She also like to go to the local café to listen to records on the juke box. Ruby and her siblings, along with their father, worked in the fields as a means of providing for the family. Ruby married the late Cave Bob (C.B.) Fulbright in 1953. To this union, three children were born. Ruby aspired to own a business of raising animals or a small orchid of fruit trees, but she chose to become a domestic engineer, taking care of her home and children. She loved her job and developed the skills of cooking and sewing to enhance their lifestyle. When her children were older, she worked outside of the home, mastering the skill of cooking while working in restaurants, country clubs, cooking and doing personal services for local residents. Ruby also worked as a nurse’s aide. She eventually used her cooking skills in the public-school system where she retired. Ruby was skilled at sewing and made clothes for her family. Her hobbies were sewing, reading, cooking, gardening and being a lover of nature. She was a longtime member of the Tudor Street Church of Christ, where she taught Bible classes in the homes of the sick and shut-in, children’s Bible class, and ladies Bible study. She worked on the food committee helping to prepare meals for church fellowships. Later she worshipped at the Powderly Church of Christ and the Martin Luther King Church of Christ. After moving to Austin in 2011, she worshipped at the Central Church of Christ and finally placing her membership at the Church of Christ at East Side where she was faithful in the Seasoned Saints and lady's ministry until her health failed her. She entered eternal rest on May 10, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Cave Bob Fulbright; her sister, Merlene Fulbright; her brothers, Coleman, Willie B., and Neylon Cofield.
