Yvetta McClain Obituary

Yvetta McClain, 55, of Powderly passed away on August 12, 2021, at her home. Memorial services are set for 2:00 pm Saturday, August 21, 2021, at Paris New Generation Baptist Church with the Rev. Shannon McGuire serving as officiate and Pastor.

Yvetta La Joyce McAlester-McClain was born March 12,1966 to the late Willie Wess McAlester and Dorothy Reed McAlester. Yvetta graduated from North Lamar ISD in 1984 and she ventured off to Oklahoma when she married her first husband Larry Burgess; from that marriage, they had a son (Korey Dale Burgess). Yvetta’s husband preceded her in death in 2009. She worked for the Guthrie ISD where she then met her second husband Jesse Owen McClain, who later preceded her in death in 2013. Yvetta continued working for Guthrie ISD and the Guthrie Trolley Transit, something that she loved doing. Yvetta later retired in 2018 due to her battle with cancer. While battling cancer she never gave up, she supported the Cancer Foundation through ‘’Relay for Life’’ and other supportive events that would assist with the cure for cancer. Yvetta loved her dogs, gardening and her favorite pass time collecting turtles. Yvetta was a member of the Grace Church under pastor Steve Eden in Choctaw, OK, where she worshiped with family and friends.

Yvetta was preceded in death by her parents: two brothers, Homer Lee Daniels & Ronald (Duck) Lee Brown and one sister Ada Louise Patt.

Yvetta leaves to cherish her memories, her son Kory Dale Burgess (Kimberly). Grandchildren, Devon and Dakson. Her siblings, Doris Jenkins Penny, Rosemary Jenkins McGee, Earnest Earl Jenkins (Dorothy), Geneva Edwards (Jimmy Turner), Mae Wess Wilson (Michael), Tammie Thompson –James (Robert) and Willie Earl McAlester (Theresa), her only uncle remaining H. l. Reed and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and her very special friend Walter G. Chapman of eight years.
